Editor's Note

The report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed to "advance the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through Chinese modernization." Cities are the core spatial carriers of national modernization, and their development models are deeply intertwined with national modernization strategies. Chinese modernization emphasizes such features as a huge population, common prosperity for all, and harmony between humanity and nature. China's urban development must therefore break away from traditional path dependence and explore a modernization paradigm that is both distinctively Chinese and globally oriented. How high-quality urban development can support the national and civilizational transformation of modernization, and how the leap from "point-based modernization" to "full-territory modernization" can be achieved, has become an urgent academic question. To this end, the editorial office has organized this academic symposium, "Supporting Chinese Modernization through Cities: Paths and Missions." Grounded in the context of Chinese modernization, it analyzes the deep relationship between urban transformation and national modernization, and explores how high-quality urban planning can support national modernization goals.
